Volunteer

EOCF loves volunteers and they enjoy serving in our programs. Opportunities range from short-term projects and special events to regularly scheduled volunteering in our classrooms and administrative office.

EOCF also provides unpaid internships that meet college requirements for students and volunteer experiences for Washington Reading Corps/AmeriCorps members. Their long-term service is an important addition to our classrooms. All volunteers are greatly appreciated.

Important Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers may be considered regular status volunteers (volunteering at least once each week) or short term/special project volunteers (volunteering less than once each week). Volunteers are required to complete paperwork and trainings based on whether they are regular status or short term/special project volunteers, per Head Start and ECEAP performance standards. Please note, Tuberculosis testing locations are listed for those needing to get a Tuberculosis test as part of their volunteer requirements. If you are interested in becoming a regular status volunteer and have not resided in Washington State the past three years, please contact the Volunteer Manager to discuss fingerprinting requirements.

Preschool Literacy Tutor & Community Outreach Position: Washington Reading Corps/AmeriCorps Service Member at EOCF

Share your love and contagious enthusiasm for community service, literacy and preschool children to ignite a passion for learning! Engage their families and the community to support and join the teaching team. Gain valuable job skills and have a positive influence on the Clark County community while earning money for your education. This great opportunity includes tutoring small groups of children (3-5 years old); working with other members to share resources with staff and families; plan and coordinate family literacy events, volunteers, newsletters and free book distributions. Time commitment:
10 ½ months @ 40 hours per week
Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

1,700 hours served September 1, 2020 – July 15, 2020 at various active preschool classrooms in Clark County. Evening or weekend service outside of scheduled hours may be required.

Qualifications required:
Become an AmeriCorps member (apply on website listed below); be at least 18 years of age (17 with written consent of legal guardian); high school diploma or GED, some college preferred; US citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien; ability to pass required criminal background checks and Tuberculosis test.

“Preferred” knowledge and skills:
Community service mindset, love of reading and preschool-aged children, motivated, flexible, self-starter, experience with young children, event planning, MS Office Suite and internet, volunteer recruitment and coordination, donation solicitation, history of volunteerism, good communication, newsletter creation, team building, time management, and organization. English plus Spanish speaking and an Associate’s Degree are a plus.

Benefits:
$1,203 monthly stipend (pre-tax), $5,815 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon completion of 1,700 service hours, health insurance for member, paid mileage, plus loan forbearance and subsidized childcare if eligible. Click here to apply.

Important Volunteer Requirements:
EOCF wants your volunteer experience to be rewarding. We ask you to complete a brief interview and application to help us determine the best placement for you. Because the safety of the children, parents, volunteers and staff are high priorities, Head Start and ECEAP Performance Standards and state laws require volunteers to meet certain criteria.

Depending on the type of project you choose and the length of service this may include showing proof of your identity, a Washington State Patrol criminal background check, signing your agreement to confidentiality and safety policies, a Tuberculosis test, Food Worker Card or attending a free training.
